Father Joseph Champlin realized that too many children in need were not graduating from high school. He desperately wanted to stop the cycle of poverty for these kids by helping them to receive a quality education based on a strong set of values regardless of income, race or religion. In 1997, he started the Guardian Angel Society to raise funds for tuition assistance, mentoring and tutoring support so these kids could achieve academic and social success. Join us!

Make-A-Wish Central New York grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Our Central New York chapter was found in 1985 and has granted more than 1,600 wishes for children in our 15-county footprint.
A wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a life-threatening medical condition. This one belief guides us in everything we do at Make-A-Wish®. It inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve. It compels us to be creative in exceeding the expectations of every wish kid. It drives us to make our donated resources go as far as possible. Most of all, it’s the founding principle of our vision to grant the wish of every eligible child.
Wishes are more than just a nice gesture. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved – wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments.
Whatever the odds, whatever the obstacles..wishes find a way to make the world better.

The Syracuse Poster Project, brings together community poets and Syracuse University artists to create an annual series of illustrated poetry posters. The process begins with a call for poetry. Over the summer, the project solicits the three-line form of poetry known as haiku. Poets submit work about downtown, the city at large, or the nearby countryside.
The Project is assigned to a group of 20 to 40 students. Each student creates an illustrated poster, using a haiku of the student’s choice. We then combine the supplemental work and a selection of the best work by students for a total of 16 posters. The posters reach the community in three ways: Through the city’s downtown poster panels, through the sale of poster prints, through the display of poster prints
